New Projects Pending!!!

This weekend I am hoping to transform a wonderful red skirt I found at Goodwill- 6o's s'tyle pencil skirt- waaaaayyy too long for me (I'm 5'3") and just a little on the blah side of things! My schedule has been quite hectic with work and church activities- I am one of the youth group leaders- but I hope to make weekends my project weekends! Until Saturday!!!

Old Lady Shirt Refashion

Ok, so I'm very new to this whole blogging thing, but I figured I'd try it out!! I'm recently married and I've been trying to develop some new hobbies on a tight budget. My mother in law has a sewing machine and lives nearby, so I figured I'd try that first!! I'm a compulsive thrifter, so I went to Goodwill this week and found these old lady shirts---great patterns, horrible designs---so I decided to try out my newly acquired sewing skills and vamp them up! Here goes!!

First, I turned the grandma shirt inside out, then I laid a shirt that already fits me well on top to act as a pattern. I pinned around the outline with about a 2 in border because of material differences.
I then cut while removing the pins
And sewed along the lines, flipped it inside out and I had a cute blouse, but it wasn't quite doing it for me so I decided it needed a little something else to add visual interest. I decided to make a large bow to go on the collar.
Using the material I had left over from the sleeves,
                                                                    I cut 2, 3 in strips
I sewed them, inside out, along all the edges, leaving one small 1/2 in hole in one end, flipped them right side out and tied a bow, which I then attached the blouse with a few small stitches.

And Voila!!! A new, fashionable shirt that only cost me $2!!!!!
